about
This song has quite a story behind it.
As a drummer, I frequented numerous sessions in London. During one stint, spanning ten days, I recorded drum tracks for a solo artist's album. Each evening, while waiting for my cab, I noticed a homeless man settling in a nearby recess. By the third night, we'd established a rapport, and I'd join him for a chat, always treating him to a burger, chips and a coffee with me. His story became the inspiration for this song.
Recorded at my home studio "Solo Sound Productions", it initially circulated among Rock bands I played with. However, fate intervened when Kirsten Orsborn, the Forces Sweetheart, sought an original song for a charitable album. Recognising the potential, we reworked the lyrics to reflect the plight of homeless veterans.
With Kirsten's vocals, the song underwent further production at Shabbey Road Studios, Caerphilly, courtesy of Al Steele of The Korgis fame, before going on to Blue Fire Studios, Leeds, where we collaborated with the Patriot organisation, incorporating backing vocals from country artist Saskia Vese and a choir of veterans.
This song portrays the poignant tale of a man facing life's struggles alone. With haunting lyrics and emotive vocals, the song delves into themes of loneliness, resilience, and the power of love. Despite hardships and inner battles, he finds solace in the hope of receiving affection. This heartfelt plea for compassion resonates deeply, reminding listeners of the profound impact a simple act of kindness can have on someone's life.
Now, released to raise awareness and funds for homeless veterans, the song sheds light on their plight, not just in London but across the UK and beyond.
